2023: A Year of Milestones and Growth
Dec 31, 2023
Here's a recap of my 2023.
Welcome to my very first blog post!
Here, I aim to share more about my personal journey, milestones and learning so that you can get to know me better.
We are now at the time of year of reflection and planning for the new year.
As I look back on the journey of 2023, it's a year marked by significant personal and professional milestones that have shaped both my life and career.
Let's delve into the highlights that made my year truly unforgettable, shall we?
New Beginnings
One of the most joyous occasions of the year was the marriage to my wife, Estee.
Together, we also embarked on a new chapter, overseeing the renovations of our new home and eventually moving into our new home. It has been such a wild ride, from anticipation to true bliss. I look forward to more shared moments with Estee and having my new home be a place of serenity and a beautiful life ahead.
Finally an Architect!
Professionally, 2023 was a turning point as I secured my license as a Registered Architect in Singapore.
Getting licensed was a 3 year journey. I remember spending all the hours journalling my work and preparing for the two 3-hour written exams. There were moments where I felt like giving up but I am glad that I persevered.
I will share more about how I prepared for the Professional Practice exams in another blog post or video - so subscribe to my mailing list and stay informed!
2 Years in Surbana Jurong
2023 also marked my 2nd year in Surbana Jurong. I have had the privilege of working with a multi disciplinary team (comprising fellow architects, project managers, engineers, quantity surveyors and landscape architects) for my public housing projects. I learned so much from each and every one of my colleagues and look forward to more collaborations.
Recently Completed Projects
One of my public housing projects in Marsiling also reached TOP and completion, now housing residents.
Being a part of a project to completion is such a privilege. It was such a struggle catching up progress after my main contractor pulled out from the project (insolvency during COVID) but it was heartwarming to see how the various parties (contractor, client and consultants) worked together and pushed to see through the completion of the already delayed project.
Lessons Learned
Amidst the celebrations and triumphs, 2023 also brought valuable lessons.
Hard work and dedication proved to be the driving forces behind my accomplishments. The mantra of 'asking when in doubt' became a guiding principle, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Efficient time management emerged as a key skill, allowing me to navigate the demands of both personal and professional spheres.
Looking Forward
As the year draws to a close, these milestones serve as stepping stones for the journey ahead. Each experience, whether joyous or challenging, has contributed to my growth as an individual and a professional. The lessons learned will undoubtedly shape the path forward, making 2024 a canvas awaiting new achievements and discoveries.
Here's to a new year of growth, learning, and countless possibilities in 2024.
